OPERA PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY – VARNA

In 1992 Kalina Bogoeva established Varna International Dance Academy in cooperation with the Varna Opera House and the Municipality of Varna.

The VARNA International Summer Dance Academy offers theory and practice workshops. Both kinds are open to trainees.

Practical seminars

Sessions are 10-day long, in academic classes, without a day-off.
Trainees are divided in groups according to their age and level of performance:

I group - "Advanced" /10 - 13 accomplished years/.
II group - "Master class А" /from 14 to 16 accomplished years/.
III group - "Master class B" /more than 17 accomplished years/.

NOTE: Upon registration for participation, the applicants are supposed to present a copy of their birth certificate.

ATTENTION: When applying, the candidates must submit a copy of their birth certificate.

The classes are conducted by notable artists, trained and practiced in the style of the Russian school of dancing.
Participants receive qualification diploma for successful participation in a practical qualification course.

KALINA BOGOEVA

Prima ballerina of the State Opera and Ballet Theater in Sofia.

She is a recognized authority in the field of teaching techniques for classical dance and classical repertoire (Russian school of dancing).

She is a graduate of the State Choreography School in Sofia and of the Academic Ballet School in Moscow.

She is a certified ballet master and a stage director of the State Institute of Theater in Moscow.

She is a laureate of the International Ballet Contests in Varna.

She has been a member of international jury many times, She is the head of the department of Ballet in the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”.

   
   

 

MILENA SIMEONOVA

Prima ballerina of the National Opera and Ballet Theater in Sofia. She is a classical dance, historical dances and repertoire teacher in the National Choreographic school in Sofia.

She has graduated from the ballet academy “Agripina Vaganova” in Petersburg. She is a laureate of the International Ballet Contests in Varna and Osaka and of the development meeting of young ballet performers in Dobrich.

She has been awarded a Silver lyre – a prize awarded by the Union of musical and dance performers in Bulgaria.

She has performed in four continents – Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

She has accomplished her higher education and graduated in ballet pedagogy from the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” with Ass. Prof. Kalina Bogoeva as art advisor.

   
   

 

ZHANA SYAROVA

Date of Birth: 6 May 1957; place of birth: Burgas.

Being a student in the State School of Choreography she was professionally trained by famous teachers, like Marina Kolyadenko (Classical Dance), Emilia Kirova (Character Dance), Kalina Bogoeva and Feya Balabina (practical training).

1977 – she graduated from the State School of Choreography and was employed by the “Arabesque” Ballet Studio managed by Margarita Arnaudova, who entrusted her with solo parties in the following performances: “The Three-cornered Hat”, “The Rite of Spring”, “Fire-dancer”

Season 1979/1980 – she joined the Sofia opera theater ballet troupe. Her first performances in “Bolero” (directed by N. Kiradzhieva) and “Khovanshchina” (directed by E. Kirova) have predetermined her career – entirely devoted to the character dance.

The following performances have been Spanish dance and Mazurka in “TSwan Lake”, Bobiliha in “Rite of Spring”, the step-mother in “The Cinderella”, Mercedes and Gypsy dance in “Don Quixote”, Mage in “Sylphyde”, Fairy Carabos in “The Sleeping Beauty”, etc., and also solo performances in the ballet pictures of the operas “Carmen”, “Knyaz Igor”, “Aida”, “Traviata”.

Being a solo artist in the troupe, having gained a rich stage experience, she has continued her education in “Pancho Vladigerov” National Music Academy with artistic director Ass. Prof. Kalina Bogoeva. She has been conferred Bachelor’s degree in Ballet Teaching Science, followed by Master degree in Ballet Stage Direction.

She is a free-lance teacher of classical and character dances

   
   

 

PAVLINA GELEVA

She was born in Sofia. In 1972 she graduated from the State Academic Choreography School in Sankt Petersburg in Alla Osipenko’s class.

She became a laureate of the International Ballet Contest in Varna in 1976 and a prima ballerina of Sofia Opera Theater.

Pavlina Geleva started practicing as a teacher in 1992. She has worked as a tutor-pedagogue in Sofia Opera Theater and ballet group “Arabesque”.

Currently she is working as a ballet tutor in Italy.

She speaks fluently Italian, Russian and French language.

   
   

 

GEORGE ELKIN

Georgi Elkin has received his Classical Dance education at The State Ballet School in Sofia, Bulgaria, and the last three years at The Moscow Academic Ballet School.

His Classical Repertory includes a wide range of roles which he performed both in Bulgaria and abroad.

Following his interest in Contemporary Dance, he joined the “Arabesque” dance company in Sofia and later on The Cullberg Ballet Company in Stockholm, Sweden, where he pursued an international career with the unique art of Mats Ek and internationally known choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Christopher Bruce, Ohad Naharin, Bill Forsythe, Carolyn Carlson, Philip Taylor and many others.

George Elkin is currently active as Classical Technique Coach, conducts Contemporary Dance Workshops and composes music for stage,film and expositions.  танц и композира музика за сцената, филми и изложби.

   
   

 

ANNA DONEVA

Anna Doneva started her dancing at the the National Ballet School in Bulgaria.

In 1999 she graduates BA in ballet pedagogy  at the National Music Academy-Sofia. In 2001 she graduates the PDDS  at  Laban Centre London, UK.

She is a choreographer of a numder of performances among which are -  “Aquarelles“ for Arabesque Dance Company and the musicals for the National Musical Theatre -“Cats”, “Miss Saigon”, “Evita”, “Sugar”, “Jesus  Christ Superstar”. She had received the award “Cristal Lira” twice for “Best stage production” and in 2007 for  “Best choreography”.

Since 2001 she is teaching at the National School of Dance Art contemporary technique classes and repertory. She is one of the members of the team, which established the first Contemporary Dance Department at the National School of Dance Art in 2004.

She regurarly gives classes at Ballet Academies and is a member of the jury of Ballet Competitions in Bulgaria and Italy.

Since 2008. Anna is a partner and presenter for Bulgaria at the Europian Dance Organisation “AEROWAVES”.

THEORETICAL METHODOLOGICAL WORKSHOP

The workshop is tailored to the needs of classical dance teachers, university students, and ballet schools principals. The course in theory is led by Kalina Bogoeva, who uses a methodology of her own. The program is based on the Russian school and the method developed by Vaganova.
The course is for children from 4 to 18 years old.
The methodology caters for the needs of the following seven separate age groups:
· Preparatory Class 4 to 6 years old.
· Preparatory Class 6 to 8 years old.
· Level 1 – basics 8 to 10 years old.
· Level 2 – elementary 10 to 12 years old.
· Level 3 – intermediate 12 to 14 years old.
· Level 4 – advanced 14 to 16 years old.
· Level 5 – highly advanced 16 to 18 years old.
All participants in the theory course receive a certificate of successful training.

Participation fee for one working group - 250 €
Participation fee for one additional course (optional) - 85 €

The participation fee for the INTERNATIONAL DANCE ACADEMY “VARNA” is payable to the representative of “Kalina Bogoeva” Foundation in the building of Varna Opera House until 7.00 p.m. of 09.07.2010.


ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• For a groups of 7 participants 10% discount.
• For participation of two children of the same family the second child shall pay half fee.
• Students having the highest score at school shall pay half fee.
• The participants shall work in the group where they are allocated and obligatorily in all foreseen for the group disciplines.
• The participants shall have the right to observe the work in all groups.
• The teachers, accompanying the participants, may observe the work in all groups.
• All participants will obtain a qualification diploma for a successful training during the workshop classes. In case of missed classes with no good reason a diploma shall not be granted.


ADDITIONAL SERVICES OFFERED TO INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS WITH THE INTENTION TO FACILITATE THEIR WORK AND HENCE TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY OF THEIR CREATIVE ENDEAVOUR:

· Notated transcript of the repertoire pieces of music
· CD records of variations included in the courses;
· Further consultations upon request;
· En pointe technique course

The training sessions are held in the building of the Opera and Philharmonic Society – Varna.

The workshop classes round off as a tradition with pupils' concert on the stage of Varna Opera House on 20.07.2011.
